Dr Hopwood is a physiotherapist who trained in acupuncture in both the UK and China and she has wide experience using it in the NHS. One of her main interests is in treating neurological problems and she completed a large multi-centre trial of acupuncture in stroke as part of her PhD.
Val is an experienced acupuncture teacher, currently working as Course Director for the MSc in Acupuncture at Coventry University. She was made a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in 2000 for her work in acupuncture education.
Val is the author of a textbook, Acupuncture in Physiotherapy, and is widely published in her research field. She is comfortable with the juxtaposition of scientific analysis and traditional Chinese medicine and feels that high quality acupuncture research can contribute to patient care in the modern NHS.
Val was chairman of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, UK, for 6 years and still sits on the AACP Education, Training and Research Committee. She is also a member of the multi-professional Working Group on Statutory Regulation of Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and Chinese Medicine Practitioners, convened by the UK Department of Health.
Sara Jeevanjee has been a private practitioner of physiotherapy for many years, working in Southampton. She also trained as an acupuncturist in both the UK and China and has used her acupuncture skills in a very successful private practice since 1976. She still runs this clinic and this gives her a very rich practical clinical experience to bring to the classroom.
She has been a member of the AACP since the start and has had many posts over the years including membership of the Executive Committee, PRO team member and AACP representative to the CSP. She has also been a member of Physio First for many years.
Sara has had a lot of additional experience in the field of ear acupuncture, undertaking several training courses in the US and gaining an understanding of acupuncture used in drug addiction.
She qualified as a teacher in 1995 and, together with Val, has taught acupuncture all over the UK and in many other countries.
